Loving My Glass Floats....

Well, I first learned about authentic Glass Floats from this terrific blog that I read regularly, called Completely-Coastal.  There was a story about Kamichia, who has an Etsy Shop called Glass Float Junkie.  And, once I started researching the history of glass floats, I was hooked.  No more Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs glass floats for me...(not that there is anything wrong with either catalog)...but if you can get the real deal - why not go for it?

It's pretty interesting to learn about what these floats were used for - and about the differences between authentic working floats and regular souvenirs.  Anyway,  I just received my second shipment and am in love with my glass floats from Kamichia.  Thought I would share how I display them.  It seemed fitting, keeping in mind the age of these floats - that they would look perfect right next to my vintage seashells.

Isn't this world a wonderful place? Amazing how glass floats used on fishing boats in the Pacific Ocean during the mid 1900's -  end up in Miami Beach, by the way of Alaska.

Hi--thank you for your visit and for following me! I hope you check out my beach tables because I have a feeling you would like them! I also love glass floats and just purchased one from Wisteria. Thanks for the link above. I visited her site and she has such interesting ones! I can't believe she just collects them on the shore! Here's the Wisteria link if you are interested: http://www.wisteria.com/Glass-Fishing-Floats/productinfo/W3279/. Have a great day! Linda

Hi Debbie...

I am SO glad you love your floats!! I love sharing them with everyone. They are such unique treasures. You are right about having authentic floats versus the replicas. There is something to be said about a glass float surviving a long journey out on the ocean currents for many, many years! It has so much history to it. It's much better than getting a "fake". Of course, I'm quite partial. :)

Thanks for the post about my floats!

I saw two authentic ones at a flea market last month, and could kick myself for passing them up!
Hopefully they will still be there this month.
I love what you've done with yours...so great with your shells!

Love the floats, I have some old and some new all together in a wooden bowl. They look so great! I love the old ones that are "frosted" by the waves. Reminds me of my beach glass that I use for jewelry making!

I just became a follower but my little rosebud icon is missing so you will find me in the back of your followers widget in the generic silhoutte. I'm looking forward to your posts. I hope you will stop over and say hello.
