What a wonderful story! You have brought tears to my eyes...tears of joy for Red.
After the hurricane, I put together a community bake sale and it was a huge success. I put two boxes out and when people purchased bake goods they could choose if their contribution would go to the Red Cross or to Best Friends for animal rescue. I was able to send a very generous check to Best Friends because of all the wonderful cupcake eating people in this community! I also do work for an animal rescue group here and they took several of the animals from Katrina. So, as you can see, your story really hit home with me. Bless you and Happy Birthday to Red!Blooming Rose Musingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06927029523022093567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7028325749897945808.post-60739846588875801912010-08-28T15:18:11.920-04:002010-08-28T15:18:11.920-04:00Amazing how you managed to have Red learn to like ...Amazing how you managed to have Red learn to like the water now. My son and many of our friends went to help after the Hurricane, but I must admit that I'd never really thought about the animals. I'm so glad to read that there were people out there that did. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story and book.
Blessings,
MarciaSimple Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09655741174904816921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7028325749897945808.post-32651483333801904232010-08-28T11:11:54.279-04:002010-08-28T11:11:54.279-04:00To be plucked from Katrina's wreckage by reass...To be plucked from Katrina's wreckage by reassuring strangers with huge hearts, & to find wonderful new families who welcomed them into their own hearts... I'm sure have been greatly rewarded with unconditional love and the joy that goes with having a pet.

Red is a beauty! His circumstances were not his owner's fault..the ones that make me angry are the ones who tire of the "fad" of owning a pet and discard it like last years hottest fashion.

I hate to see any animal suffer-so I am glad that you eased the homesickness and suffering your Red must have experienced. He went everywhere, even to Germany, with us. We had him for 12 years. I loved that dog. He gave me such comfort when I was so far from home. Dog stories always get to me!Anita @ GoingALittleCoastalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02601157532080826275noreply@blogger.com
