A Mixture of seashells..starfish and a little bit of fondant

Ever since I feasted my eyes on this gorgeous cake from Bella's Rose Cottage....

....which you can read about on my post here, I've wanted to make create a cake just as pretty - with a sea inspired twist. So in the New Year, one of my goals is to take cake making lessons - to learn how to work with fondant...so I can create a a fabulous coastal cake.

Here are some photographs I've collected to provide inspiration...while I won't make a triple or quad tiered cake...I certainly think I will go for a small double decker.  I just have to figure out what to do with the cake when I am done. Besides eating it of course.

Each one of these cakes is like a work of art.
Hope you like my picks...which one
is your favorite?

I love the square white cake with the sea fans. So pretty - too pretty to eat. So, besides your interior design skills - I think I am seeing a frustrated baker somewhere here. Will we be seeing you on Cake Boss anytime soon :)

OMG you just opened my beachy mind to something I had not even considered. For my wedding I am def getting something like this. So hard to pick but the subtle understated ones are my faves. Now if only I were engaged!!!!!! At least I can start the planning. :)

Wow, these cakes are works of art! So hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to chose, it would be the 6th cake! I've never worked with fondant, sounds like it would be a fun class, though!

#8 and #11 are exquisite, although any would be appreciated as they truly are works of art. If only I had an ounce of their talent.

I like #'s 1,6 and 11. I actually think they are all fabulous works of art...it's too difficult to pick a favorite. I took a cake decorating class years ago and learned how to make roses and other flowers but never worked with fondant. Can't wait to see what you create! What do you mean by you "have to figure out what to do with it after you make it"!?! The answer is...all your blogging buddies will help you eat it!!! It will be a blogging feast!
