Okay - so I've been home all week and vowed to get caught up on all the little projects around the house that I've been planning on doing for a really long time. I first learned about this amazing chalk paint from Kim of Southern Savvy Style when she painted her cabinet a fabulous French blue. You have to check out this post - the piece is that wonderful and you can read about some of her fabulous furniture makeovers here. She is incredibly talented, has a beautiful home and I'm sure you will be as inspired as I was to tackle a few makeovers.
Once I saw how beautiful her pieces came out - I ordered several different colors and decided to give it a try. I decided to start off small...so first up on the list came this interesting bowl/tray that I bought...I think from ZGallerie that I ended up turning into a wall ornament instead of a bowl. I think it looks similar to a coral design so I thought I would paint it red. Here is how it looks on the wall in its natural color....
So first I pick my location and set up operations. Not a very practical place to paint and craft, especially since I have a craft room/office - but I always end up on my kitchen counter. We basically live in or around this spot in the kitchen.
So I start painting with a color called Emperors Silk. I don't have any darker colors to mix into it so I sure hope I like this shade of red.
At first, I was not that crazy about the color and how it was coming out. But I stayed with it (obviously, I had not choice)....and by the time I put on a second coat and let it dry...I really liked how it came out. This piece was harder to paint than I thought...because of all the angles and overlaps. It took longer than I thought it would. Once I put it on the wall...I noticed I missed a few spots so I have to just touch it up a little. And I'm thinking about adding some glaze to darken it up a bit.
I'm pretty happy with it...now I'm off to paint my family room end table duck egg blue. Let's see how that comes out. Hope your having a wonderful weekend.

I think it turned out great! That must have taken awhile to paint. I have yet to try the chalk paint but I think I might just have to give it a go. I wish I could buy it locally and save on the shipping costs :(
That looks so good red. I love how it pops off the wall now and brings out the reds in the rest of the room. I have not tried that color yet. Thanks so much for the shout out.
This looks really good in your room. Beautiful job!
WOW that looks great, good for you for sticking through the project. I am so bad at finishing up my projects mostly bc of time but I do admit I could use a little more patience!
Your piece looks so vibrant against the wall.
Hope you are having a great sunday!

Good for industrious YOU! Love it.
Love it! The red really pops off the wall. I love the use of this unique bowl, too.
You can tone it down with some of the dark wax...that's what I needed to do with my mirror. I love the bright red, but the mirror needed some depth in the crevices and corners.

Really, really stunning. It just pops off that wall. The accessories in the bookcase are wonderful too. Well done! Hope you are having a great Sunday.
That red was a great choice. It really makes that pop now. I'm looking forward to what you're going to paint next.
WOW! That really POPS off the wall now! I love it! I've been so tempted to try some of the chalk paint! I love the results! ♥
I love it in red! And neat idea... to turn a bowl/tray into wall decor!! Funny that I should experience a hurricane in RI..., and I was concerned about that in FL. Very strung gusty winds..., but everything stayed put.
I totally think this looks like coral and the color is so pretty. Love it!
LOVE it, it came out great! Really pops!
Oooh you will become addicted! :) I love how it turned out and it really pulls the reds from your room.
Have fun painting your table!

That new splash of color is great!! Nice job!
What a transformation - the red looks superb against your beautiful green hued walls. Well done!
Deb, if you get a chance this week come over and enter to win a beach glass necklace (link on home page) :O)
Have a lovely week,
Marie
You are so clever! What a job that must have been getting in all of the crevices and crannies! It sure did turn out pretty!
Wow,the red really pops! Looks great! I love working with chalk paint and I can see you are enjoying it too. I had knee surgery about three weeks ago so I used the time to do a few small projects. I look forward to seeing your duck egg blue end table. Your "wall sculpture" looks
great!
I love this! I have a few "coral" things as well that I'd love to paint! This turned out great!
How pretty your wall decoration turned out, it does look like coral. I purchased the white and red chalk paint. I have not used the red yet, so seeing your project helps me see how red it really is. I do like it and have plans to paint an old buffet with the red.
The duck egg blue is a really pretty color too.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
Oh, I love how this looks on the wall! VERY pretty!
Have fun with the chalk paint!
Hugs.
Hi Debbie - that is gorgeous!
That is something you would find in an upscale boutique - what a beautiful creation
Hope first week back at work is going well!
Weekend's almost here -
Linda :o)
Luuuuuv the color...totally pops! But how did you use the wax?
Isn't that paint the greatest thing since sliced bread, Debbie??? lol! I've gone through 2 cans of it already on repurposed garage sale items I recently sold, as well as furniture in my home. Just love it! Your coral looks fabulous on your wall. Just pops!! :) Hope you're still enjoying some much deserved time off, girlie!
xoxo laurie
