A perfect Key West Conch House....

Today when I was visiting the Traditional Home website, I came across one of my all-time favorite homes on the first page...and could not resist sharing it (again).  I did a post about this little gem last summer...and have saved the magazine so I can use this decor as my inspiration for my Keys Home redo.
Traditional Home is one of my very favorite magazines....I read it faithfully each month...I find the articles to be very inspiring and informative.  

I just can not stop admiring this custom made carpet
 where the pattern from the chair is dropped in.
And the fringe on the drapes - I love it. 

There's this magnificent carpet again.  And the toile fabric looks fantastic
mixed in with the tropical colors.  

What an amazing guest room.  Can you imagine waking up in this beautiful room?

I love the mixture of colors, textures, fabrics and wood in the master bedroom.

And the little guest cottage out by the pool....how cute is this?

Sea Shell Cottage in Key West....

Looking for an amazing summer getaway?  Look no further than the Seashell Cottage in Key West.  This amazing cottage is decorated in shabby chic and has a spectacular shell encrusted kitchen and bathroom which is just heaven on earth for this seashell loving girl.  

This looks like such a relaxing little paradise...I am going to check this out next time I'm in Key West.

The Road to Pigeon Key....2.2 Miles to Paradise

For those not familiar with the Florida Keys - they are an archipelago (a group of many islands in a large body of water) of 1700 islands...that begin at the southeastern tip of Florida...about 25 miles from Miami. The islands lie along the Florida Straits and divide the Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Mexico.

For many years, The Keys were only accessible by water....but that changed with the creation of Henry Flagler's Overseas Railway in 1910.  On Labor Day in 1935, a massive Category 5 Hurricane, one of only three that have have been recorded to hit land since 1850 (the other two were Camille in 1969 and Andrew in 1992), hit the Middle Keys around Islamorada.  This destroyed the railroad and the tracks were never rebuilt.  From then on - the Overseas Highway & the 7 mile bridge replaced the railroad as the main access to Key West.

The current seven mile bridge connects the Middle Keys to the Lower Keys...and it bypasses the original bridge and a little island called Pigeon Key..which housed workers that built the railroad in the early 1900's.  When the new bridge was built, the state kept 2.2 miles of the original 7 mile bridge..so that the island of  Pigeon Key remained connected to Marathon.  

Those 2.2 miles remain some of the most scenic in The Keys....bridging together the Atlantic and the Gulf.

Most of The Keys do not have beaches.  This is a typical shoreline.

Seashells & Starfish...A mini tree for The Keys.

Before I left for The Keys on vacation - I spent some time decorating my tree at home. I filled it with seashell garland, starfish, turquoise glass ornaments, mini glass floats, glittered snowflakes in white and silver, silver and turquoise bulbs...and topped it off with starfish adorned with sea glass...for the top. 

So now I'm in The Keys and my decorated tree is home....and I found myself feeling the house was a little bare.  Off I went yesterday afternoon to see what I could dig up.  I found a little Charlie Brown tree in the dollar store and figured I needed to get a little creative to make it look like it belonged in my home.

So I bought a shell mobile (which I cut in pieces), a roll of twine and some silver piping and pulled it all together.  So now at least I have a little bit of holiday decor going on.   

I think it came out pretty cute...and the best part 

is everything together cost under ten dollars.
